drills.
Every DIY enthusiast and skilled tradesperson needs a reliable set of tools, and drills
are a vital component of any tool kit. Ryobi manufacture a wide range of specialist drills, ranging from
budget models right through to those for the full time professional with prices to suit.
These days cordless drills are the preferred choice for most
people, and Ryobi manufacture a range of cordless drills powered by a Ryobi 18v battery.
The Battery Pack
By definition, cordless drills are unencumbered by an
attached electrical cord, which has important implications as regards health and safety. A positive side effect of
this is seen with the Ryobi 18v battery in that the P100 Ryobi 18v battery pack is flat at the base.
This has two advantages in that firstly the drill can be rested upright in your
workspace, and secondly the natural weight of the Ryobi 18v battery means that the drill is difficult to knock over
once put down, and therefore comes easily to hand when you need to reach for it again.
Charging the Battery Pack
For safety reasons, Ryobi 18v battery packs are sent out
with very little charge. Because of this, they should be charged until the green LED on the Ryobi battery charger lights up. You should also be aware that it takes a number of
charges for the batteries to reach their charging capacity. For this reason, you should always make sure that you
use the drill until the battery has run out of charge before recharging for the first five or so charges, rather
than “topping up” the charge in between uses.
Also, when you are using the cordless drill
intensely, the battery pack gets hot. If you try and recharge the battery at this time, the green LED on the
charger will illuminate instead of the red LED. It is therefore important that you allow a hot Ryobi 18v battery to
cool for about 30 minutes before attempting to recharge it.
It is important that the correct Ryobi battery charger is
used when recharging battery packs.
The Charging Cycle
The working time of the drill after charging is completely
dependent on the type of work the drill is being used for. With general work, drilling, hole making etc., one
charge should usually last a couple of days.
Battery Pack Care
To ensure that you get the longest possible life from your
Ryobi 18v battery, you should always remove the battery from the charger when the green LED indicates that it is
fully charged, rather than leave it “trickling”. Battery packs should be kept in an ambient temperature of less
than 80 degrees F and, if stored for long periods, they should be discharged before storing.
Battery Pack Disposal
Ryobi 18v battery packs should be recycled or disposed of
correctly. On no account should you attempt destroy or take them apart yourself as serious injury could result. It
is highly likely that local or federal laws will expressly forbid putting these nickel-cadmium batteries in the
general waste. Please consult your local waste authority regarding disposal / recycling.
