Ryobi Battery Charger
Just about everyone today,
from home DIY enthusiasts to building professionals has a collection of cordless electric tools, and therefore need
a reliable battery charger, and a Ryobi battery charger fits the
bill..
Cordless tools have the major advantage of not having a trailing electrical cord, but the
biggest problem is keeping on top of the recharging. It’s not just a question of managing the battery recharging
merry go round either, you also have to find the right charger for the right battery.
The latest Ryobi battery charger is part of the Ryobi One+
system, which uses a new Li –Ion Ryobi 18v battery system, interchangeable with all the cordless tools in the
Ryobi One+ range.
The Ryobi battery charger is claimed to recharge a Ryobi 18v
battery in an hour. The Ryobi 18v battery has a meter so you can keep tabs on the ongoing power level. It is
claimed that these batteries hold their charge 4 times longer and are 20% lighter.
The batteries, when new, should be put on the Ryobi battery
charger only when they have completely run out of juice, and will take 4 or 5 charges to reach their full capacity.
Once charged, the batteries should not be left in the Ryobi battery charger to “trickle charge”, but be removed
altogether.
The Ryobi battery charger is called a “Smart Charger” due to
the fact that it has 3 LEDs (red, yellow and green) that give information regarding charging progress as
follows:
Yellow and Green Combined illuminate when the battery starts
to charge. In effect, the Ryobi battery charger is checking the overall condition of the battery – any defects and
it’s won’t charge. If all is well, these will go off after approximately 2 minutes, being replaced by the red
LED.
The red LED illuminates when the charging process is taking
place.
The green LED, once lit, indicates a fully charged battery,
which should then be removed from the charger.
Should the yellow and green LEDs on the Ryobi battery
charger stay on for more than 15-30 minutes, before changing to red, the battery pack should be taken to an
approved specialist to determine if the battery is damaged and should be replaced. Never try and disassemble the
battery pack yourself, unless you are properly qualified to do so.
The Ryobi battery charger itself is highly durable. However, hot batteries, ie
batteries that need recharging after an extended period of use and are hot to the touch, should be left for 30
minutes or so to cool, before recharging.
The Ryobi battery charger should be operated in an ambient
temperature of more than 50 degrees F and less than 100 degrees F. Ryobi 18v batteries should not be stored in vans
or outside.
Should the Ryobi battery charger fail to charge the battery,
it should be taken, along with the battery, to an authorised Ryobi dealer for inspection and testing. On no account
try and repair a damaged battery yourself.
